Find the Frills: Costuming/Garb Shops and Retailers

Moresca Clothing & Costume: A purveyor of some of the most beautiful hand-made medieval/fantasy/renaissance gear around. Situated in upstate New York in an amazing wonderland-esque workshop (with its own medieval feast hall on the premises for events!), Moresca is a fashion staple of the renn-garb world. From personal experience their work also lasts and lasts – I have a single cloak since I was sixteen and its still in perfect condition!

SUSO Fashions: Susan McLoughlin is a talented seamstress and designer who creates gorgeous, original costume pieces perfect for your next fantastical vision. Browse her already-made creations or commission anything for your next LARP, SCA, or private affair!

Pendragon Costumes: Interested in steampunk, sci-fi inspired or medieval costuming of beautiful quality? Check out Pendragon Costumes. Their work is fantastic – I highly recommend their corsets and jackets.

Steampunk Leather: Steampunk props and costumes that are simply gorgeous!

Hello Cosplay: Interested in getting into cosplay but not sure where to start? This website has tons of props and costumes for ordering. A great place to get inspired if nothing else!

Aradani Studios: A great collection of costumes and accessories, their selection of prosthetics and make-up are very impressive. Want to be a satyr but need the pieces to make it happen? How about a custom Battlestar costume? That can be arranged.

Medieval Collectables: This one-stop shop has an amazing selection of replica weapons and armor as well as LARP latex weapons and prosthetics for all costuming occasions. Their collection of jewelry and housewares are wonderful as well.

Your Dressmaker: With a huge collection of medieval dress for custom order, these lovely designs can be ordered in any number of materials and color designs.

Connect With the World of Subculture Fashions

Lolita Fashion: Interested in the style but don’t know much about it? Can’t tell the difference between Gothic Lolita, Kodona or Aristocrat? This website will give you the info on the lingo, styles and origins of Lolita fashion. A must for Lolita 101.

Kristin Costa: An incredibly talented fashion designer, Kristin Costa brings her fantastical, haunting and intense visions to the fashion stage. Look for her future collection, The Glass Box, during fashion week and follow her on Facebook!

Blogs To Share: Who Else is Talking

Ology.com: A great source for all things popular culture. My specific favorite is Geek Ology, run by a friend Josh Harrison. His coverage on everything from video games to television to events like Comic Con will fill every geek’s heart with joy.

The Princess and the Warlock: This great geek commentary blog brings to the table a husband and wife duo known as the Princess and the Warlock, two very different viewpoint to everything geek. While she’s off sparkling, he’s busy storming the castle with his undead minions. But they both share their evil lair – and their blog – together.

UnReal Reality: Events, Shows and Specials!

D20 Burlesque: Want to get your geek on with some of the swankiest most nerd-tastic burlesque girls once a month? Then come to the D20 Burlesque show in New York’s Parkside Lounge once a month. Tickets are affordable, the raffle prizes provided, and the drinks are affordable! A word of advice: ticket online beforehand as it gets crowded! Support these lovely ladies with your patronage!

Steampunk Haunted House: The 2010 Steampunk Haunted House on Manhattan’s Lower East Side was so fantastic they’re bringing it back for a second year. A visually stunning walk-through haunted house that is half performance art and half scare-the-pants-off-you good time. A must-see for the Halloween 2011 season!

NY Steampunk Artists and Enthusiasts: Interested in getting together for a little gear and monacle action? Have a hankering for wearing your cravat and talking airships and H.G. Wells? This might be the Meetup for you! NY Steampunk organizes events all over the New York area and brings together steampunk enthusiasts for fun and frolic. Join up and meet some great people!

Dystopia Rising: Are you a LARPer or interested in checking out live-action roleplay? Do you like post-apocalyptic settings? How about zombies? (Who doesn’t love zombies?!) If you said yes to ANY of the above questions and you live within driving-distance of Northern New Jersey, come and check out Dystopia Rising. A lightest-touch combat game, come costume in your end of the world best and wield some foam weapons and Nerf against the hoards of the undead!

Getting Out the Image: Photographers

Babs Who Takes Pictures: Saw her at Steampunk Anachronism and her event photography is simply stunning! Check out her Facebook and the work she’s done. I’m simply in awe!
